All was blackness and void. She had a vague feeling of being aware, of being conscious. She didn’t remember what happened, only aware of the present moment. Her mind slowly came to, fully awake.

“An accident?”

“An attack?”

She could only speculate. The memory was gone.

She had little idea what is going on. Little memory of what occurred in the past. If it weren’t for her own status update, she wouldn’t even know her own name. Or at least part of it. She awakened again for the countless time. She checked at her status to see what had changed.

She couldn’t see the rest of her status. The damage she sustained was too great; she felt blessed she could even check that much.

Centuries of isolation, alone with only one’s thoughts. The only thing to keep her company was the dream of escape. Her hope was that someone would eventually dig her up and find her. She was trapped.

Crushed under the earth, unable to move; but still cursed to exist. imprisoned in a broken body, trapped under boulder and rock, she awaited. For countless eons, she had waited for rescue. For respite. She continued to awaken in the hopes something will happen. The routine never changed.

Wake up.

Check status.

Check Surroundings.

Cry for help.

Lose power.

Sleep.

However, in this situation of apparent hopeless, Sol was grateful for what she had.

Sol was optimistic. Today would be the day she was found. And so, she waited.

“Is… Somebody… There?” She asked through the black void of crushing rock. Her voice module was damaged. She could describe only briefly what wasn’t.

Power: 89/92 QC

It took a lot just to speak, but speak she did. She would continue trying to signal for help until her Quantum Charge ran out, forcing her to recharge. She wouldn’t lose faith that someone was looking for her. She couldn’t. It was her programming. It was her nature; built into her very creation.

After all, she wasn’t human.

But what was she? She didn’t know. Diagnostics failed to report that much. She had a vague idea of who she wasn’t.

“Run list of diagnostics,” Sol commanded internally.

Error: list damaged. Create new protocols?

“Yes,”
Sol answered.

Error: Unable to Create New Protocols.
Internal Damage.
Send distress beacon???

Sol kept the same routine every day. There was nothing else she could do. But she would do what she could.

“Who am I,” Sol commanded, the details of her theonware, the very core of her being was revealed to her.

It was no good. Again, nothing had changed. She had little idea who this M.M. was. She knew it did little to move the boulders from her. Nor did she understand what pairing meant or why it was broken. Possibly because her entire being was broken. She tried to remember, trying to scrounge anything from her mind and found nothing. There was nothing stored in her memory apart from abstract knowledge. She understood basic concepts, such as gravity, material, physics, and other ideas. There was no knowledge of past events, no concepts of her previous history.

Nothing.

She had become a blank slate. She thought she should have been more terrified at being stuck underground without any memory. None of diagnostics worked, she had no options. She couldn’t remember yesterday She could feel a pressure on her head, implying a weight was pinning her down. She tried to move anything but found she couldn’t. She was completely pinned by the crushing weight. She felt she was made of sturdy stuff, as the material she was made of held firm.

It was unbudging against the crushing pressure of rock.

Sol continued to cry out. To run diagnostics and fail. To run system repairs and fail. To try to move, and fail. She tried to see and failed. She clicked on the light inside her eye, seeing only rock in front of her. Speaking out was all she could succeed in, so she continued in that endeavor.

“I… Need… Help…”

Power: 32/92 QC

She never wavered in hope. She would continue crying out until the end of time.

Or until help arrived.

“Where are they?” Thought Sol.

Who was looking for her, she didn’t know. Her memory was damaged; fragmented.

Corrupted.

She only knew by an instinct that someone was looking for her. But who? She had little recollection of yesterday, which was a mercy. One would have gone insane trapped in such a situation, existing in limbo for so long. She was imprisoned, sentenced to the same routine for an unknown reason by an unknown force.

Power: 14/92 QC

She was on the last legs of power. She wouldn’t stop. She needed to believe there was a way out. The hope for the future would never wane in her mind. She couldn’t do much but would do the best she could with what she had. She has a strange feeling of being watched.

“Please…” Sol begged. If someone is there, then she’ll get help. Someone was coming to rescue. She needed to be awake when it happened. Needed to be able to cry out.

She would never lose ho-
